Daily Artage: 7/6/08
I really loathed this one as I painted it; nothing seemed to be working. But it doesn’t look so bad now. Watercolor, about 30 minutes.

Penguins are fun to paint. And I hate how my scanner butchers pthalo blue. Reference used, about 45 minutes.

I pushed further on the 6/8 Daily Artage, and am pretty pleased with the results. I’m usually more timid when it comes to painting faces, but the bolder look definitely works better. About 15 minutes.

Another watercolor and colored pencil piece. About 25 minutes.

Since I had the sketch, I figured why not use it for a watercolor?
Also used Verithin Prismacolor pencils. About 25 minutes.
I know I wrote that Richard has blonde hair in his youth, but I see him more of a redhead now…

The first sketch of Archduke Khiro shaded in Payne’s Gray watercolor. About 10 minutes. I’m still trying to decide on his clothing style before I start full-body sketches.

I feel much better about this reworked version. Although now the blotch of background by the head makes the skull look lopsided…

Blargh, didn’t have time to scan this yesterday. Not sure about this one; something is bugging me, and I think it’s the background. It needs to be toned down to make the figure pop a little more. Watercolor, around one hour. Reference used.

Well, instead of being a good artist and drawing something, I was a good writer and wrote all day. So, no daily artage today. Instead, I’ll post one of my favorite watercolor pieces. It’s about a year old, and while not my best, is probably the sweetest piece I’ve ever painted.

I cannot tell you how much I loathe the torso. It looks like she’s wearing a misshapen wonderbra. Jesus. Watercolor, about 30 minutes, no reference.
