Daily Artage: 4/30/08

Yeah, I was about ready to kick my scanner for butchering this. But looking at it, the ripples actually look kind of cool.

Bad anatomy issues all around; her neck is as long as a giraffe’s, her jaws are more Neanderthalesque than human, and her ribcage is too wide. Despite that, I find myself liking it.

Watercolor. No reference or underdrawing, and about 20 minutes.

Hips will be the death of me. So will knees and feet. Col-Erase pencil, about 20 minutes.

Partial Hiatus

I’m going on a partial hiatus until the end of May. “Partial” because I will still be posting daily artage, but nothing else. Because, let’s face it, I need that little voice chanting “Upload! Upload! Upload!” as incentive to draw or paint every day. Commitment is the only way to fight my chronic procrastinitus.

Aside from that, I won’t be on the ‘net at all, but expect an explosion of activity come June.

Cheers!

Main character in an upcoming project, and the first sketch that pretty much nails how I imagined him.

Simple ink sketch of part of an oak tree. At least, I think it’s an oak tree.

Frankenstein Unbound

Author: Brian Wilson Aldiss
Genre: Science Fiction

Frankenstein Unbound was…interesting. A novel that actually explores the effects time travel and alternate realities can have on a person’s mind, it’s an intriguing read.

I think the face looks more moose-y, but the body’s still a little scrunched for my liking. Meh. Pastel pencils, about 30 minutes.

Art Quickie: What Sable Brushes Really Are

Kolinsky sable hair brushes, widely considered the premium tools for your fine art needs, are actually not made from the fur of a sable. Instead, the tail hairs of the kolinsky weasel are harvested for the brushes. And by “harvested” I mean the tails are cut off from the presumably dead animal. Ouch.

Day late, I know. Didn’t have enough time to scan it yesterday. Mucho issues with this one. Head too big, hips severely fucked up, etc.  References are your friends, kids.
